Troop Cuts Signal Deeper Vietnam Pullout By June
Defense Secretary Melvin Laird announced a larger than expected overall force reduction, predicting about 300000 fewer armed forces by June and a possible further draft decrease. The plan foreshadows new troop withdrawals in Vietnam by mid April to July, driving U.S. strength below 4 lakh and the draft below 225000. Security troops for Vietnamization would total around 100000 or more.
