Perdue tests plan for statewide flag poll in Georgia
Gov Sonny Perdue floated a nonbinding statewide straw poll on the state flag after a Capitol protest over the Confederate emblem. He said the Legislature should let voters express their opinion without a binding referendum. Perdue aims to gauge Georgians on returning to the old flag or keeping the 2001 design, noting a constitutional ban on binding referendums. He declined to say if he will push the proposal himself or wait for lawmakers.
