Harrison admits drawing district map to aid ally
In Columbia on Monday House Judiciary Chair Rep. Jim Harrison testified for four hours in a federal redistricting trial. He said he ordered a district map to reduce black voting age residents in a district held by Rep. Whatley to aid his ally, while insisting the plan reflected population shifts and bargaining among lawmakers. The trial centers on 124 House seats, 46 Senate seats, and six U.S. House districts.

Judge invalidates Georgia video poker ban in ruling
A Fulton County judge ruled Georgia's video poker ban unconstitutional as overly broad and vague and predicted the law's doom. Attorney General Thurbert Baker said the decision will be appealed while existing video poker halls stay open. The suit by Old South Amusements, Game World Inc, and Phoenix Amusements Inc. challenged the law passed during a summer special session to curb machines moving into Georgia.
