Test votes postponed on unemployment bill amid election year talks
The Senate delayed two test votes on stalled unemployment legislation as Republicans and Democrats seek a compromise to restore benefits to about 1.3 million long term jobless workers. A meeting between Senate leaders and Sens. Dean Heller and Susan Collins considered adding a provision to restore full cost of living benefits to military retirees under 62. The bill would restart federal benefits for those exhausted state support after 26 weeks, following last year’s cuts that left 1.3 million workers without aid.
