Allene Glover Weigand, 85, of Weatherford Texas died Saturday January 11 1997 in Fort Worth. Graveside services at Wesley Chapel Cemetery Beech Island with Reverend James Davis officiating. Survived by widower Austin Weigand three daughters Barbara Hodges Sandra Barnwell Sylvia Cooper two sisters Jeannett Eastman Ellen Sands and seven grandchildren. George Funeral Home in charge.

Aiken County Council meets tonight at 7 for a special session to fix annual tonnage and financials of a regional solid waste contract. Administrator William Shepherd estimates nearly 1 million dollars yearly, a 33 percent rise, as the Three Rivers Solid Waste Authority spreads disposal costs across eight counties plus Allendale not in the agreement. The SRS site, approved by the DOE, spans over 1000 acres and can handle up to 200 000 tons annually.

An afternoon blaze on Nichol son Drive in Couchton damaged a house owned by Ellis Birt. Firefighters from Couchton and Montmorenci extinguished the fire in about 10 minutes after starting in a wood stove. No one was harmed though Birt and a female guest were present.
