Top Cane Cutters From Mexico City Win Prize
A group of 216 young Americans known as the We Shall Overcome Brigade received a prize for cutting 25 million pounds of cane in Cuba. The 125 boys and 91 girls left Mexico City in mid December to aid Fidel Castro in harvesting a record 10 million tons of cane. They have worked in a field near Havana since December, averaging nearly two tons per day per person.

Air Crash Victims Recovered in Western Samoa
In Western Samoa 33 people died when a Polynesian Airlines DC3 crashed after takeoff from Faleolo Airport. The aircraft, the sole DC3 in service, plunged into a lagoon near the runway end amid heavy rain. Victims included 30 passengers, the pilot, co pilot, and a stewardess. all bodies were recovered.

Tape Players Become Popular Target for Thieves
Auto thefts in Aiken focus on stereo tape players with several reports this week. Marvin Poston said a $110 unit was stolen from his car on Power House Road. Kenneth Coleman and H W Smith of Colleton Avenue Apartments also had tape players stolen. Dr H D Wyman on Coker Spring Road reported multiple items taken including two bottles of Demoral and a two way radio. Police listed three more possible breakins and found an open gate at Park Avenue Square.

Aiken Florist Idell Richardson Dies in 10 23 AM Crash
Idell Richardson of Old Airport Road was killed when his van smashed into the Interstate Finance Company Building on Richland Avenue in Aiken at 10:23 a.m. The florist's vehicle crossed the median and traveled about 330 feet before impact. He died on arrival at Aiken County Hospital. no others were injured.
