Downtown church complex would swap spire for parking

A downtown proposal envisions Old St Mary's Church and Self Park as a 12 story complex with 10 levels of parking and two open air chapel floors. The plan includes classrooms priest quarters and parish offices with a stainless steel cross atop a nontraditional bell tower. Standard Parking Stein & Co. would gain a downtown stake as St Mary's receives a new church valued at 5.5 million dollars. The project is pitched as a win win by Rev. Thomas J Dove though critics question its incentives.
