South Carolina Fire Commission Proposal Seeks Unified Oversight
Firefighters push a bill to create a 13 member fire commission with two members from each of six districts and one at large. The plan would place the State Fire Academy under the commission and aim to standardize training and inspections amid current scattered oversight. The cost is projected at $65,000 yearly, with supporters arguing long term savings through lower insurance rates. Rep Irene Rudnick backs the measure and notes previous interest in fire safety training.
