Contract Authorized For Research Park Building

Aiken County Council authorized the administrator to sign a contract with Hayes Seay Mattern for design of the Savannah River Research Campus building. The Spartanburg firm won against 9 bidders at 313 920 funded from General Obligation Bond funds. Construction could start May 1 with occupancy by November, and federal funds may add 1.25 million for a 45 000 square foot facility. The SRRC land is a 422 acre site near U S 278 by the Savannah River Site donated by WesPn after a land swap with Bowaters.
