Aiken County school board at Silver Bluff High requests a 14.3 mill tax increase to raise 1.87 million dollars to offset two state funding cuts totaling 1.879 million. The board urges the Legislative Delegation to restore funds or propose alternatives.
Taxpayers face higher penalties as taxes double or triple for some in Aiken County. Payments are due by February 15 without penalty for 1982 taxes, while tax sale proceedings begin March 15 with a total 20 percent due on unpaid accounts.
Silver Bluff High School hosts last night’s ceremony marking Area Five as an official, equal district on the Aiken County Board of Education after nearly two years of work. Robert H. Slay presented certificates to Area Five Advisory Council members while noting it’s the first elected Area Five representative in 16 years.
Aiken County Council adjourned without a road paving priority list after a 2 1/2 hour work session. They set a public hearing next Tuesday and will submit district paying priorities by Thursday noon to form a single list for the delegation.
