SRS bid goes to new group for five year contract

The U S Department of Energy awarded a five year four billion dollar contract for Savannah River Site management to Savannah River Nuclear Solutions a consortium formed by Fluor Northrop Grumman Honeywell and others. About 6500 SRS staff will move to SRNS with a three month transition. WSRC will retain about 2000 liquid waste workers under URS Washington Division. WSRC had bid separately. SRNS to oversee the main site while WSRC coordinates liquid waste remediation for now.

Transition plan outlines SRS takeover by Savannah River Solutions

The 90 day plan starts Jan 24 2008 and runs through April 2008 as Savannah River Nuclear Solutions completes the takeover. DOE officials say 6500 SRS workers will become SANS employees and retirees’ benefits will be handled by the new contractor. An additional 2000 WSRC employees stay on pending a Liquid Waste contract award. The base management period runs Jan 2008 to Dec 2012 with a 5 year extension option to 2017, at an estimated cost plus award of 800 million dollars per year.

Tyler found guilty in 2005 Aiken carrier slaying

Aiken jurors found Cornell Tyler guilty after lengthy deliberations for shooting during a 2005 high speed chase. The Springfield man, 25, was sentenced to five years in prison for Debra Doreh's death and injuring Joe Brewer, a Home delivery assistant. The case mirrored Tyler's 2006 trial in part.
