Grocery Chains Halt Mist Machines After Legionnaires Outbreak
Three major chains Winn-Dixie Safeway and Kroger halted use of vegetable mist machines as a precaution after a Winn-Dixie Boga lusa store was linked to November Legionnaires outbreak that killed two and sickened dozens. Researchers traced the bacteria to a one quart reservoir in the Boga lusa unit. State epidemiologist Dr Louise McFarland noted the device’s role in a community outbreak. Beal of Portland said the sprayers are widely used with no other problems reported.
