New engineering institute planned by Savannah River labs
Representatives from the Savannah River National Laboratory helped form a public private partnership to create the Rapid Advancement in Process Intensification Deployment institute. The project, led by SANL the Georgia Institute of Technology and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, costs 140 million with half from the US Department of Energy and 79 million in matching funds from 100 organizations. The aim is to train engineers and technicians to apply modular process intensification tools to reduce costs in chemical processing and to engage with small and medium sized businesses while expanding undergraduate research in modular chemical intensification. SANL has over 30 years of experience and leads a national effort to highlight this approach for transforming the chemical industry and DOE facilities.
