Ice storms knock out power and cause widespread damage
Residents of Aiken faced a night of cracking limbs and downed trees with many streets blocked by ice hung branches. Power and heat were out as SCE&G and Aiken Electric Cooperative worked to restore service, with lines and four sub stations affected and a transformer blown on Giles Road. Officials warned the situation could worsen with continuing northeasterly winds through Tuesday.
