A group of physicians reports in the Journal of the American Medical Association that shorter sleep duration is associated with higher risk of coronary artery calcification. Coronary calcification signals potential heart problems, including occlusions and heart attacks, underscoring sleep’s role in cardiovascular health.
Clark Gillespie notes that missing even one hour of sleep raises arterial calcification risk by about a third. In a 495-participant, up to 20-year study, longer sleep reduced calcification rates, while sleep depth and apnea showed no clear link.
The Aiken Camellia Society hosts its annual Camellia Show January 16 to 18 at Aiken Mall with 15 to 20 exhibitors, many camellia species, Japanese flower arranging, Bonsai displays and on site purchases.
