A winter storm across South Carolina produced more than 2600 automobile accidents. In Aiken County two women died when vehicles spun out of control into oncoming traffic. Ruby Feagin survived after a head on crash on Trolley Line Road. Statewide, traffic crashes surged with 1120 in 24 hours and 960 in the first 12 hours of the storm. The Aiken Public Safety department logged 25 incidents since Wednesday, up from 13 the prior week.
Sunny skies and warmer temperatures Friday melted much of the week’s snow in Aiken County and across the state, but many roads remained slick from ice treated at night. Forecasters warn hazardous conditions will persist as daytime warms and nightly temperatures drop below freezing.
