Factory Outlets close South Carolina stores amid sales slump

The Factory Outlets clothing chain plans to shutter the remaining 12 of its 28 stores in South Carolina and Augusta. At the Salley corporate office owner David Ross declined to comment. Aiken manager Rochelle Dallas blamed competition from discount retailers and said about 75 employees are affected. The firm began in Salley after World War I, once employing over 300 at a plant run by Eddie Ross and Lillian Ross.

Abandoned Aiken House Destroyed By Fire

An empty home at 155 Hedge Road near S C 19 and Rutland Drive in Aiken was fully engulfed when responders arrived. Firefighters from the Aiken Department of Public Safety battled the blaze for over two hours, with 25 firefighters and multiple units on scene. Bystander Ozzie Ware said the house belonged to his mother in law and had been in the family for over 50 years.

Local race to replace Sheriff Sellers in special election

Aiken County plans a June special election to fill the sheriff vacancy created by Howard Sellers departure to homeland security work. Chief deputy Jody Rowland and Michael Hunt announce runs for sheriff, Rowland as a Republican and ready to act as interim sheriff until a governor appointed successor is named.
