New Tax Payment Change Proposed for Auto Licenses
Richland County Treasurer Tom Elliott urged Monday that a bill be introduced to collect automobile taxes at the state Highway Department when licenses are purchased. He said the shift could save millions and shrink the tax collection system. Opponent H Ernest Quarles argued the highway agency should not collect taxes and that vehicles remain property taxed separately.

Personnel Changes At Southern Bell In South Carolina
Southern Bell Telephone Company announced two personnel changes effective January. Jane Gunter, office manager in Aiken since January 1970, is transferred to Charleston as unit manager. Laura Ware, service representative in Aiken, is promoted to supervising clerk. she started as an operator in 1946 and became a service representative in 1952.
