Goodman Comes From Service Family
Lt. Robert C. Goodman Jr. the Navy flier held captive since December 4 in Syria comes from a long line of service. His father is a retired Air Force lieutenant colonel and his brothers serve in the Coast Guard and preparing for the Naval Academy from which Goodman graduated in 1978. His capture followed a Lebanon raid in which his pilot was killed. Jesse Jackson pressed for his release as Syria agreed to free him. Goodman grew up in Portsmouth New Hampshire, lives in Virginia Beach, and cherishes his Navy career though his family notes his strong high school record and later honor in his school boosters’ award for effort.
