An earthquake of magnitude 3.5 struck the southern end of Orange County near Newport Beach and Laguna Beach at 10 01 p m Thursday causing minimal damage. No injuries or major structural damage were reported by Orange County authorities and lamps reportedly fell in a few homes.

Henkes Named Purchasing Agent For County

Clair Henkes Jr. 23, an Aiken native, was named purchasing agent for Aiken County. He moved from administrative assistant to the county administrator, joining the office in October 1973. The post was created by the December board action and will pay $38,674. He reports to James A. Donovan in finance.
