Dr Beth Everitt and husband Tom toured the county on New Year’s Day visiting Johnston North Augusta Monetta Wagener Salley New Ellenton and Silver Bluff High School as part of acclimation to Aiken County. Everitt, formerly Albuquerque NM superintendent, was chosen by the board 6-3 over Dr David Mathis and Dr Frank Roberson in November.

Destini Marielle Trowell entered the new year as Aiken Regional Medical Centers' first baby in 2008. Born 1:24 am January 1 to Vicki Trowell, the preterm infant weighed 4 pounds 5 ounces and stayed in the neonatal unit while mother recovers. Destini’s birth followed an eight hour cervical dilation with epidural labor, and doctors expect a likely discharge home soon as mother and child improve. Destini’s arrival caps a morning of celebration with hospital staff presenting a baby-care gift basket.
