Perry Memorial Park to honor Inez Perry family in Aiken

A group plans a granite memorial at the park behind Schofield Middle School renamed Perry Memorial Park by the Aiken County School Board in memory of Inez Perry and her children Freddie Lee and Frances. The effort funds a bronze plaque, a Feb mid dedication, and a Feb 7 benefit dinner tied to a black history parade.

Aiken’s Takin’ It Off to return each spring

Organizers of Aiken’s Takin’ It Off plan to bring back the spring weight loss event annually. The initial 2003 program, run by the Greater Aiken Health and Recreation Coalition, helped participants lose over 2,300 pounds in six weeks with workplace teams and biweekly town hall meetings.

Graniteville unit heads home from Iraq after 11 months

After nearly 11 months on active duty in Iraq, the 122nd Engineer Battalion based in Graniteville is returning in April. Paula Scott coordinates a formal homecoming for Charlie Company and seeks Aiken County volunteers and donations to support the event. Clemson 2004 Master Tree Farmer Program starts February

Clemson Extension offers a seven week Master Tree Farmer Program for forest landowners. Sessions run 7 to 10 p.m. Tuesdays from Feb 3 to March 16 with locations across South Carolina including Edgefield. USC Aiken trip to Fox Theater to Oklahoma matinee
