She leaves husband Walter William Rushton and children Mitch Brittany Cody Kristin Bo, sister Clara Lee Jeffcoat, brother Lensey Shumpert, and grandchildren. She was born in Lexington County and attended Rocky Grove Baptist Church. Visitation Sunday 2 to 3 p.m. with service at 3 p.m. Rev. John O’Cain officiates. Burial in First Assembly of God Cemetery. Mildred J Franck 98 of Aiken died December 29 2011 at Pepper Hill Nursing Center. She was predeceased by husband John L Franck and son Kenneth E Franck and survived by two sons one grandson five granddaughters and eleven great grandchildren. Born November 1 1913 in Oshkosh Wisconsin she moved to Aiken in 1990 after living in Louisville Danville and Fort Wayne. She held a BA in Education from the University of St Francis MA in Education and ESL from Ball State University and worked as FAA secretary and teacher.

A Spartanburg woman who shot a homeless man inside a vacant home she was trying to sell will not face charges for defending her property under the castle doctrine. The intruder Gregory Wells, 31, will be charged with unlawful entry after police cited the homeowners’ defense of their home. Wells was shot in the face and is in good condition at the hospital.
Lexington County deputies say 34 year old Robert Banks Jr shot his 33 year old brother Bobby Banks in the head after a domino game dispute. Banks fled the Pelion residence but was arrested hours later and confessed. He is charged with murder and awaiting a bond hearing.
Columbia police say 22 year old Zinah Jennings lied to officers about the location of her 18 month old son Amir Jennings who has been missing for weeks. Investigators report she was involved in a December 24 wreck and later gave false information about the child’s whereabouts.
Folly Beach councilman Donald "DJ" Rich was arrested by a Charleston County deputy at about 2 a.m. Saturday after he appeared unsteady in a Folly Beach road, smelled of alcohol, and flashed a middle finger at the officer who he believed was a friend on the Folly Beach force. Rich apologized, saying the gesture was not excusable and pledged it won’t happen again.
