A circuit court judge will be asked to issue a ruling on the local option sales tax approved by Aiken County voters, seeking legal weight for the measure.
State Columbia A bill to legalize tattooing stalls in the Senate as Sen. Bill Mescher of Charleston chairs the introduction and push. Mescher notes illegal unsanitary tattooing concerns while Phil Leventis suggests safeguards including artist registration and a 15 day recheck. The bill would require artists to be regulated by state health officials, be at least 21, and complete infection control courses.
Baldwin indicted by Aiken County Grand Jury on armed robbery burglary first degree criminal sexual conduct and weapons charge connected to the October 29 2000 Royal Inn Motel holdup. He also is a suspect in the October 2000 shooting death of USC Aiken student Jason Bernard Cook.
Ways and Means clears an education budget granting about 1400 annually for teachers. James Roland Smith says the plan excludes extra two workdays and classroom supplies money, citing last year’s one time funds and a looming 500 million revenue shortfall. Aiken County would gain roughly 475 385 in new money if budget holds, as debate begins March 12.

He stressed the local party remains active and capable, signaling readiness to coordinate with the national committee. Thurmond's successor question loomed as DNC did not immediately respond.
President Bush asks Congress for impersonal hearings on a 1.9 trillion budget that mixes tax cuts higher spending and debt payoff. He will address a joint session outlining the fiscal 2002 plan in a 40 to 50 minute speech.
