A waitress reports missing cash register receipts time sheets and documents, while authorities note past fraudulent checks and jail time. A complaint cites a locked restaurant and unknown address as investigators pursue leads.
President Bush plans another South Carolina stop to boost his sagging campaign after weak finishes in South Dakota and New Hampshire. A strong March 7 primary victory over Buchanan and Duke would help before Super Tuesday and he may address a home builders group in Columbia with additional stops.
Vice President Dan Quayle and Republican candidate David Duke plan campaign stops in the Aiken and Augusta region this week and next. Quayle will visit Augusta at 11:00 a.m. meet supporters, speak in Greenville at 2:00 p.m., then depart by 5:00 p.m. A Duke rally is set for Thursday night at the Melvin Wisham Community Center in Florence with campaign manager Dr William Carter noting a Langley speech to follow in Charleston and Florence.

Mayor C Brown says families may govern the grounds. discussions involve Mabel Crawford and local officials about establishing guidelines and possible nonprofit transfer. The cemetery sits on land donated in 1896 beside state route 302.
Treasury Secretary Brady remains optimistic about an economic upturn, citing hopeful signs as existing home sales fell 1.5 percent in January to 3.22 million rate and initial unemployment claims rose to 459,000 for the week ending February 15, the second weekly rise in a row.
Aeast 14 affiliates of United Way of America are holding back yes until an examination is completed of alleged irregularities in the national group's hiring and management practices. The United Way of Aiken County said it would wait for the results of an independent investigation before taking further action. The national organization in Alexandria, Virginia, planned an internal teleconference with its 1,400 local Affiliates today. A Washington law firm was hired to probe reports about pay and benefits to national president William Aramony who is said to receive 463000 in salary and other compensation plus generous benefits.
