Gloverville and Aiken are closer now as a carrier route for the Aiken Standard is set in Gloverville. Ronell H. Lowe becomes the new Aiken Standard representative there, inviting residents to call 648-2311 to subscribe and start delivery immediately.

The total solar eclipse will cross South Carolina on March 7 with a path from Tallahassee to Cape Hatteras. French President Georges Pompidou arrived amid 600 demonstrators and police barricades at the St Francis Hotel after a late flight from Cape Kennedy. He planned meetings with local Jewish leaders opposing France’s Mirage sale to Libya as a San Francisco rally concluded with one knife arrest.
Duke Power vice president William S. Lee told a Joint Congressional Committee on Atomic Energy hearing that electric demand across 17 Southern states could require 70 additional nuclear plants by 1990. He said eight sites might be in North Carolina and five in South Carolina, each with cooling water sources and towers as needed.
New York AP reports the Kienast quintuplets have been removed from oxygen enriched air and a doctor calls their prognosis guardedly optimistic. Dr. Stanley James said the babies, born six weeks early to Margaret Kienast, remain in satisfactory condition on ordinary air as their mother recovers. the five infants include Amy Sarah William Gordon Abigail and a still unnamed boy.
Jiri Hluze a 36 year old engineer from Pilsen received a one year suspended prison term for beheading four girls who fraternized with Soviet invasion troops in August 1968. He was expelled from the Communist party according to Pilsen Pravda.
Vice President Spiro Agnew urged state leaders at the National Governors Conference to lead a campaign to push away what he called misfits and bizarre extremists from front pages and television. He argued elected officials must stand firm, shape public opinion, and restore normalcy amid a surge of dramatic characters.
Junior high and senior high students will choose Teen-age Queen of Hearts tomorrow at 8 p.m. in Aiken Junior High School. The fourth annual event raises money for the Heart Fund. Girls voted for by collecting a penny per vote. Tickets cost 1.25 for adults and 0.75 for students from Manning Owens.

Robert Cotter limits entries due to a March 10 New York return, while wintering in Aiken for 22 years with 15 horses in his string.
A number of bonds tied to obscene material distribution gambling charges were forfeited as defendants failed to appear. Jerry Southerland Ballard 26 resigned from theater management after forfeiting a $100 bond. Six others forfeited $25 bonds after a raid on a gambling house with officers from city police and county sheriff departments.
State Sen. Floyd Spence of Lexington announced his Republican candidacy for the U.S. House from South Carolina's 2nd District. He pledged to protect the rights of both the majority and the minority.
