The Aiken County School District outlines elimination of 17 district level positions due to budget deficits. Some early childhood interventionist roles may return via federal stimulus funds. The secondary education director post is cut, with the retiring director Andy Reeves stepping away.

The Aiken County School District plans to cut district level positions across secondary education as part of budget reductions. Most affected coordinators and specialists face reassignment, with a few possible returns if federal stimulus funds become available and waivers are granted by the Board of Education.
Steve Shuford, a longtime user of Gray Mare Hollow Road, laments ongoing work by the South Carolina Department of Transportation. Since last spring barriers closed through traffic and heavy machinery now dominates the route as crews install a pond dam culvert and straighten winding sections linked to past fatal crashes. He says the delays extend his commute and the project has stalled for nearly a year.
Jeff Terry of the Department of Transportation says the road project is advancing after discussions with a multitude of residents and others. A map of the construction area is on page 10A, ROAD section, with updates on ongoing work and nearby impacts.
