South Carolina to close its second low-security prison
South Carolina will shut Coastal Pre-Release Center, its second minimum security prison to close in a year, effective April 1. 124 inmates will be relocated to another facility, and coastal officers will transfer to a Ridgeville medium-security prison. The move aims to save money and reduce overcrowding while reflecting lower recidivism and fewer inmates returning to prison.
