Community honors Roland Windham in Aiken remembrance

The long serving Aiken city official and Christian community pillar Roland Windham died Friday in Charleston after a cancer battle. Pastors Rev. Drs. Fred Andrea and James M. Aiken Considers Final Leg Of Heritage Cycling Series

Downtown Aiken could host the final leg of the South Carolina Heritage Cycling Series racing through Anderson Greenwood and Orangeburg or Walterboro before finishing in Aiken. About 120 professional riders from North America South America and Europe would compete if City Council approves the event which would coincide with Lobster Races on May 2. Streets would begin closing around 6 pm for the main race according to Parks Director Glenn Parker.

Senator calls for elimination of TERI retirement program

South Carolina Senator Greg Ryberg proposes ending the Teacher and Employee Retirement Incentive program a move he says would save the state from a 750 million dollar hit. He notes TERI allows 28 years of service to retire then work five more years with a lump sum payout and argues the program harms fiscal integrity and long term retirement viability. Ryberg says current participants would finish the program but no new entrants would be allowed.
