Deputy Hooks Jumper During Suicide Attempt on I 26 Overpass

Lexington County deputy Kelly Hite restrained a 32 year old Aiken man threatening to jump from the St Andrews Road overpass onto Interstate 26. He handcuffed himself to the jumper and hung on for several minutes before bystanders helped pull them to safety. The man was taken to Lexington Medical Center for mental health evaluation and no charges were filed.

Student fires Parrot rifle at Confederate re enactment

A Kennedy Middle School student, Re-Enactment arolyn Richsbieter, fired a Parrot rifle during warmup for the Battle of Aiken reenactment at Sporting Days Horse Farm east of Aiken. About 800 school children witnessed living history as units prepared for the two day event.

IRS in South Carolina uses computer systems to flag fraudulent Social Security numbers and incorrect or duplicate data on returns. District Director Donald L. Breihan notes about 1 in 10 returns are rejected during processing, with 1.2 million held back out of 10.4 million filed.
