Dunkin Donuts will open in Aiken on Richland Avenue across from Wal Mart after six months of construction. About 6000 doughnuts will be ready for customers at opening, while a VIP Preview Party gave a sample of the full menu and coffee aromas filled the store. Joe Bartee praised the new location during the preview.
Franchise co owner Charlie Hartz and his wife Kitsie plan five Dunkin Donuts in the area with the first store on Richland Avenue across from Wal Mart near USC Aiken and Aiken Regional Medical Centers. The shop will operate 5 am to 11 pm seven days a week.
After nearly three hours of discussion the Aiken City Council voted 4-3 against rezoning 1.64 acres on Silver Bluff Road from residential multifamily to general business. Residents opposed the plan citing impact on property values while proponents said the martial arts studio would support an Olympic kids program with state agency backing.
