Urgent finding on transuranic wastes at Savannah River Site
An international expert panel has labeled SRS transuranic wastes an urgent problem. The four member group met DOE and the SRS Citizens Advisory Board on December 7 and 8, toured storage areas, and recommended optimal treatment. Dr. Ervin J. Fenyves urged rapid action, warning against budget cuts that delay treatment. The CAB will forward recommendations to DOE SRS to press for an urgent budget request for treatment in 1996 97. The panel notes the need to start the decision process this budget year as facilities are developed.
