Divers will start a precise two to three week search for the CSS Hunley within a couple of months, using three or four boats. An international expert panel has labeled SRS transuranic wastes an urgent problem. The four member group met DOE and the SRS Citizens Advisory Board on December 7 and 8, toured storage areas, and recommended optimal treatment. Dr. Ervin J. Fenyves urged rapid action, warning against budget cuts that delay treatment. The CAB will forward recommendations to DOE SRS to press for an urgent budget request for treatment in 1996 97. A two car crash near Kitchings Mill killed Herbert Ashland of Martinez Georgia and a 12 year old boy riding in a Toyota Corolla. The Corolla driver is hospitalized in critical condition at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. The crash occurred around 6 40 p m on Thursday on S C 4. Authorities say the Corolla driver tried to turn onto S C 394. The investigation continues and charges are not yet known.
