Public input on funding for the USC Aiken Fine Arts Center shows 992 votes for neither council funding and 537 for joint funding by Aiken City and County. Other responses include county funding only 52 and city funding 11, with many qualifiers on taxes and timing.
A countywide poll shows 537 voters favor county help while 992 oppose. 992 back city aid alone. 537 favor both or neither option not clearly separated.
Aiken County plans to file a notice of intent to appeal Circuit Judge George F. Coleman’s decision awarding about 1.4 million dollars from the Mattie C. Hall trust to Mrs. Hall’s heirs Julian B. Salley and Eulalie Rutledge. The fund aimed to benefit Aiken County Hospital which closed in 1976.
