Charles Felder a Graniteville resident and U S Army veteran working at the Graniteville Huddle House won the Aiken Standards online contest for what readers are doing to stay warm during the Feb 12 ice storm. His $25 gas card prize followed his three days of 25 hours overtime feeding residents without power.

Williston Rescue Squad franchise terminated by Aiken County
Aiken County Council voted to end the Williston Rescue Squad franchise due to noncompliance with the county contract. The squad had only handled non emergency or convalescent transport for Aiken County and its listed address was a gun shop. Delinquent county vehicle taxes were paid, and the squad previously paid $800,000 in 2013 to resolve False Claims Act allegations. The COO indicated possible future reapplication but did not see current benefit in continuing the franchise.
