McGhees clash with city over 77 acre Aiken equestrian center
Bruce and Janis McGhee dispute city zoning and a public awareness sign at their 77 acre Harness racing facility on Banks Mill Road. The couple claims the city seeks to limit their plans including a trackside restaurant and tack shop while the mayor and planning commission weigh changes for the entire district. The sign prompted a ticket threat of 425 dollars per day, and the McGhees say the project generates millions for the local economy with 133,085 stall nights since arrival. The dispute involves planning officials, council deliberations, and ongoing debate over future use of McGhee's Mile.
