At a School Improvement meeting last Friday J John Pye presided and approval was given to stage Ye Little Old Folks Concert by fifth and sixth grade pupils at Central Christian Church later this month. Langley man released after jail term in fatal shooting
E L Corley of Langley, jailed since January 29 for shooting Gene Walker, was released Sunday. Walker died later from pneumonia, not the wound, per doctors. Witnesses said Walker, intoxicated, abused his wife before the confrontation that led to the shooting.

Old Negro Dies Near Vaucluse After Nine Decades
Hart Quarles, a respected Black resident born in Edgefield County and later living near Vaucluse, died Monday morning at age ninety one. A Democrat supporter known for intellect, he was among a few Black men who wore a red shirt in darker days. The Aiken Post of the American Legion held a dinner at Hotel Aiken last night.

The Wagener vita School held a preliminary Recitation Declamation contest with sixteen boys and sixteen girls named as potential speakers. Finalists will be chosen February 22 to represent the school in district and county contests. The PTA oyster supper occurred January 27 followed by a free entertainment. Basketball teams competed in Aiken tournament and Orangeburg district event. An extensive monthly honor roll lists many students across grades with scores ranging from 90 to 97.
