At USC Aiken Jerry Snyder earns his 500th victory after a doubleheader win over UNC Pembroke. The Lady Pacers, led by Snyder, celebrate a milestone as the team adds to a standout season with a Sunday shutout.
Deaths and Funerals notices list several individuals including Jack E. Duncan Aiken Graniteville and John Odell Pearson with June Seawrite Spardley Tammi Louise Jackson Ward in Columbia Mary Lois Mitchum Britt among the named deceased.
The school board proposes reducing band matching funds by 20000 for 2009 10, from 4000 to 2000 at high schools and from 2000 to 2000 at middle schools. Band director Ryan Westberry says the losses will force tighter spending on instruments music and transportation.
Couples gathered for Masterworks Chorale’s An Evening of Champagne, Dessert and Love Songs at the Etherredge Center. Performers included Masterworks members and USC Aiken students singing standards from Rodgers and Hart to Gershwin while couples shared long marriages.
Genesse R. Williams a 43 year old Perry woman died at the scene when her Nissan Altima was struck on the passenger side by a southbound Chevrolet Impala driven by Ronnie H. Toole Jr. Williams was a passenger in the vehicle driven by Jennifer Abney of Irma who left turning onto Holiness Church Road. Abney suffered serious non life threatening injuries and Toole had no life threatening injuries. The South Dixie Road collision remains under investigation by the S C Highway Patrol. This marks the third fatal crash in Aiken County this year.
Aiken County Council plans second reading and a public hearing on an ordinance to require bars outside city limits to close from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. Saturdays, aligning with city codes. Sheriff Hunt pushed the proposal citing late night crime upticks. Councilwoman Rawls opposes government overreach.
