An autopsy showed eight year old Rachel Angelica Smith from Myrtle Beach had meningitis signs but Waterhouse Friderichsen syndrome caused her death was from bacterial infection. Health officials say there is no panic but seek medical care for fever chills and rash symptoms.
USC Aiken Chancellor Robert Alexander announced a $100 million request during a SRRDI board meeting at Aiken Technical College. The money would fund economic disaster relief for the Aiken Augusta area facing about 4200 SRS job cuts if the 1996 federal budget as proposed by President Clinton passes. The SRRDI coalition of 22 regional leaders asks Rep Lindsey Graham to help secure funds to offset downsizing impacts.
