Quick Read: Local Businessman Wins $6.9 Million Slot Jackpot

A 61 year old Reno businessman won what was described as the world's biggest slot machine jackpot, $6.9 million, at the Cal Neva Club after lining up four 7s on a Megabucks progressive machine. Officials will introduce him at a news conference Monday morning. The win may help cover a Valentine gift lapse noted by the winner. The previous record was $4.9 million won by Terry Williams at Harrah's Reno on February 1, 1987.

Fourth Miss Garlic crowned at Covington Garlic Fest

About 400 guests attended the three day Garlic Fest at Covington Halls across the Ohio River from Cincinnati. Eileen Knorr, 73, of Latonia won the Miss Garlic title as revelers savored garlic themed dishes and a garlic peeling contest energized the venue.

Valentine heart transplants hit two continents a week apart

A week-old California baby named Christoffer received a heart at Loma Linda University Medical Center after a five hour operation. Across the country in Pittsburgh, 3 week old Jonathan Stowe began an eight hour heart transplant at Children's Hospital. Both boys born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome. Jonathan is the youngest transplant patient at his hospital. Christoffer is the youngest at Loma Linda this year.

Newlywed booked in death of his wife on cruise

Los Angeles AP Scott Rostow 36 of Santa Monica was arrested after his wife Karen 26 was found dead aboard the Star Dancer during a honeymoon cruise. He is held without bail at Terminal Island federal prison awaiting autopsy results. FBI said investigation of murder ongoing.
