Peanuts creator Charles Schulz dies after illness

Monte Schulz, eldest son of the Peanuts creator, recalls his father's illness and retirement. Charles Schulz died in his sleep at age 77 in Santa Rosa. The final Snoopy strip appeared on the day of his death as a memorial service was planned for Feb. 21. Schulz is survived by his wife Jeannie, two sons, three daughters, stepchildren and 18 grandchildren.

Weekend thunderstorms roll through region with heavy rain

Aiken Voters Set Tuesday City Council Election

Voters in Aiken go to the polls Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. to elect a new city councilman to fill the unexpired term of Skipper Perry. Perry moved to the House District 81 seat after Rudy Mason’s death last June. Republican Pat Cunning won the party primary on December 20 against Jim Sutherland.
