Red Cross aids ice storm and home fire victims in Aiken
Aiken County Chapter of the American Red Cross assisted the Cartledge family after their den fire and heavy smoke damage. Since Jan 1 the chapter has responded to 17 family requests, helped 39 people, and spent over 11000 dollars while noting rising single‑home fires due to cold weather and fuel shortages. The group prioritizes immediate needs, shelter and temporary housing, and aims to bridge gaps between existing programs. Fundraising ahead, including the Sporting Days Weekend on Feb 14–15 at Sporting Days Farm, seeks to bolster finances as demand remains high.

Brush Fire Sheltered By Bee ch Island Fire Dept Detours Traffic
Firefighters battled a brush fire off Atomic Road and a nearby structure fire was reported. A detour around the Edisto River bridge on Highway 302 will run all week reducing routes via Burkele Road and New Holland Road to Bethcar Church Road and Camp Rawls Road, adding about 15 minutes.

Boat maker eyes Aiken County for U S plant
Dr George Fry told the Rotary Club of Aiken that Empacher Rowing may expand to the United States with a $4 million fiberglass boat facility in Aiken County. The plant could start with 30 to 40 jobs, expanding to 70, and Fry has discussed the proposal with local economic leaders. The move could boost rowing in the CSRA as Langley Pond already hosts five regattas yearly generating about $3.5 million for the area.
