Moscow reports cosmonauts Alexei Gubarev and Georgy Grechko landed safely in Kazakhstan after a 30 day space mission aboard Soyuz 17. Tass notes a smooth landing 75 miles northeast of Telinograd despite high winds and low clouds.
President Ford and Congress edge toward a compromise on U S aid to South Vietnam and Cambodia as 82 congressmen urge a dialogue on phasing out all aid. Ford told the Chicago Tribune he could halt large scale aid in three years if Congress funds it meanwhile.
Democrats advance alternative energy plans to Ford program focusing on conservation and higher costs. At least two dozen House and Senate members propose substitutes, while the House recesses after passing a 90 day delay on Ford's $3 a barrel oil import tax.
The FTC ordered A and P to stop advertising goods at stated prices unless the company can supply the advertised products. An FTC administrative law judge found A and P violated federal trade laws by frequently failing to have advertised items available.
