The Aiken Standard will run a four part series on nuclear waste concerns affecting the Savannah River Plant in Aiken County and facilities in Barnwell County. Staff reporter Thurmond Whatley has researched the issues and the series begins Monday and Tuesday.

Brown Lung Settlement Reached With Graniteville Worker

Posthumous Award Honors Mike Harvey
Aiken County Police Officer of the Year could not accept the honor as he died in the line of duty. Harold Michael Harvey was posthumously cited for heroism at Graniteville Exchange Club ceremonies. His wife Susan could not attend. a representative accepted the award for her. Harvey died Jan 26 1978 while fighting a house fire with the Aiken Department of Public Safety.
