Man shot in head at Colleton Court Apartments

Aiken Public Safety investigates a Wednesday night shooting on Colleton Avenue that left 35 year old Anthony Oakman shot in the head and hospitalized at Georgia Regents Medical Center. Investigators found shell casings. no weapon recovered. no arrests reported.

Hitchcock Parkway widening draws crowd at county meeting

At the Augusta Regional Transportation Study Policy Committee session residents crowded the Aiken County Council Chambers to weigh a 4.8 mile widening of Hitchcock Parkway from Silver Bluff Road to Jefferson Davis Highway. The plan seeks four lanes, funded with 9.5 million dollars from state and local sources, despite 75 percent of 250 commenters opposing the scope. Officials pledged another public information session in two to three months to present a smaller footprint plan and gather more input.
