Road project draws lots of response

A proposed connector road between Whiskey and Silver Bluff roads has drawn strong interest. City Manager Roger LeDuc said about 60 engineering firms have filed proposals with Aiken to study the roadway and compete for the contract.

Triple homicide found in Aiken home on Travelers Lane

An autopsy was scheduled after the bodies of Bobby DuBose 41 Frances DuBose 49 and Brandon Paul DuBose 13 were found shot to death in their Sandstone subdivision home on Southside. Coroner Sue Townsend described it as a triple homicide with possible self harm theory and noted the entire residence as a crime scene. Police were alerted by a 911 call at 3 21 pm and will conduct a lengthy investigation.

Kennedy Middle School mourns student death

Westinghouse offers early retirement at Savannah River Site

WSRC plans to reduce about 800 administrative jobs at the Savannah River Site defense plant. Spokesperson Mickie Seitter said up to 1300 workers could be eligible for voluntary separation or early retirement, with exact numbers determined by a survey and eligibility identified within two months. Retirement offers expected to begin in April after Energy Department approval.

Franchise fees to raise some utility bills in area

Aiken Electric Cooperative will raise bills for about 2,500 customers on March 1 to cover a 3 percent franchise fee. CEO Gary Stooksbury says the firm has absorbed the cost in the past and is now charging the efficient true cost. North Augusta and Edgefield cited as fee payers.
