A 62-year-old Melvin G. Shaw of Sumter, South Carolina, was stranded in his car for two days along a Delaware road during a severe snowstorm. Officer Wayne D. Anderson found him near New Castle County and transported him to shelter after he ran out of food and warmth. Shaw was driving from New York to Sumter when he veered off I-95 during the blizzard and became stuck.

The FBI investigates a weekend cross burning on a Blue Ridge family's lawn to determine civil rights violations. Diane Rogers says the family woke to a charred cross at about 4 30 a.m. George Rogers found it on his way to work and kicked it aside for police analysis.
