The radioactive remnant of a Soviet nuclear powered spy satellite re entered over open water in the South Atlantic about 1,100 miles east of Brazil at 6 10 a m EST. NORAD tracked the final section as it burned up and officials warned that radioactive fallout could not be ruled out. The core was expected to disintegrate, with most fuel consumed. the remaining hardware could spread over a wide area.
