Railroads miss safety deadline push to 2020 for train control

FRA says CSX Transportation Norfolk Southern and Canadian National will not complete Positive Train Control by 2018, aiming for 2020. The program uses GPS wireless data to slow or stop trains to prevent derailments and collisions. Notable incidents include the 2005 Graniteville chlorine derailment and a 2015 CSX derailment near Allendale County.

Antiques in the Heart of Aiken Show Lunch at Sweetheart Cafe

The Sweetheart Cafe serves lunch today from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sunday noon to 2 p.m. at the Aiken Center for the Arts. Drinks and desserts run until 4 p.m. A related lecture on American garden style costs 20 dollars and runs 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. with admission to the show. Flo Carter Debuts First Music Video in CSRA Milestone

Beech Island longtime singer Flo Carter unveils her first music video at 3 p.m. in the Augusta Museum of History. The five minute piece features clips from Aiken’s train museum and local sites including Beech Island cemetery where her husband Don Carter rests. Guests include Jennie Montgomery, Sharon Jones, Carey Murdock, and Archie Jordan with producer Bryan Williams of Bryton Entertainment. The project spans over two years of planning and twenty plus years of church choir work with First Baptist Beech Island.
