Senate blocks local government aid in budget vote
In May the state Senate killed a bid to elevate aid to local government as a budget priority by a 29 to 13 vote. Instead lawmakers approved expanding at risk four year old kindergarten to aid more poor children. Aiken County faced a winter storm costing at least 30 million in the past year. Killian said the Local Government Fund could offset costs if funds are frozen and two future budgets may reflect different funding scenarios. Octopus Census Tallies in Puget Sound Waters
