Cory Ford's orange pickup stolen then found

Cory Ford, a 16 year old South Aiken High School student, is glad his bright orange Chevy pickup was recovered after it vanished from the driveway in the middle of the night. A neighbor heard it start about 3 am. The theft was reported to police by Cory's mother Shirley Ford.

Legislators hear ideas on elections in Aiken County

Aiken County elections officials urged state lawmakers to approve a bill allowing 16 and 17 year olds to serve as poll managers. Chairman Ben Christensen outlined eight recommendations aiming to simplify voting and adjust election years to odd and even cycles, while backing youth involvement to boost turnout.

Ryberg warns of tactics to keep video poker alive

Sen Greg Ryberg R Aiken warned Thursday that video poker operators push for a referendum to keep gambling alive in South Carolina. He said the legislature created video poker and must remove it while noting the press should expose the move. The House Ways and Means Committee voted 23 2 to remove video poker revenues from the budget and the Senate Finance Committee will take up the issue next week. The railroading metaphor is used as the issue advances.

New Ellenton seeks rescission of consent order on public works

Gary Smith attorney for New Ellenton petitions the court to rescind a consent order governing the Departments of Public Works. He argues the order was not authorized by City Council nor signed by a judge. The town clerk notes council never voted on the consent order and would not sign it.
